Our Mission.............

PWRA is conscious of the heritage of Purley. This has long been recognized by local historians in the Bourne Society, and recently by Croydon Council through the Local Areas of Special Character initiative.

PWRA stands for preserving and enhancing the quality of life in Purley, against the tide of traffic and inappropriate development

In early 2001, a large site behind this view was heading for re-development, with the departure of Forbes. In early 2005 attempts are being made to ensure a development fits the strategic plan for Purley.

Some of the successes of PWRA in recent years

Challenged successfully the Metropol late night licence. The place is now Fitness First Obtained better planning controls for Care Homes
Fought off the rail freight line threat Obtained improved street cleansing
Delayed Day Aggregates crusher return Influenced adverse planning applications 
Promoted Pelican crossings Pushed for Edgehill Rd. traffic lights         
Obtained more parking spaces Influenced A23 Red Route design
Prevented A23 dual carriageway plans Made residents views known in the Unitary Development Plan for Croydon.
Obtained better controls on late night catering outlets in residential areas. Promoted traffic calming measures
Obtained better lighting for streets and      footpaths. Playing a part in the regeneration of Purley district centre & the fight against grafitti
PWRA also helps publicise, through its Journal, events and meetings likely to be of interest to the residents of Purley.  A Notice Board situated opposite the Purley URC church, on the recycling bay, will display local news, details of public meetings and appeals. A more suitable site is being sought for the Notice Board.
